I was originally going to call this an Ode To Rita Joe, however, when I checked the definition I knew that what I wanted to write was indeed a Tribute To Rita Joe. A Tribute may be defined as something given or done as an expression of esteem or a payment by one nation for protection by another. Truly what Rita Joe has done in her short 75 years here on earth has done much to bring understanding between nations and she is to be held in great esteem for that.

On a personal note …

In Renaissance demonology, the relationship between humans and fallen angels is essentially a dialogue. Armando Maggi examines this rhetorical interaction-<del>how demons seduce humans into speaking their language</del>-and reconsiders an impossible question that concerned church fathers: What happens when demons and humans mate?

As part of the Chicago Calling Festival, I was fortunate enough to perform a concert with Chicago’s legendary jazz saxophonisst, Fred Anderson, reedist Mars Williams, the incomparable Jim Baker, and the amazing bass player Josh Abrams. The concert was intended to be an internet2 facilitated collaboration between artists and musicians of University of California San Diego; Stanford University; and University of Alaska at Fairbanks. However, technical difficulties arose and the only external input that Chicago musicians received were some loud feedback hums and squeals. (Audible in the recording) Our show took place at Loyola University’s Quinlan Hall, with invaluable assistance from Laptop musician and tech guru Chris Sorg.
