Indie and alternative music podcast, exposing three new artists …
First is two songs from indie band Western Civ off their EP Regent Kingfish Slumberpad, including “Of Her Many Newfound Splendors” and “Got The Number”, which shows you their Sonic Youth side, as they’re big fans of Sonic Youth. Western Civ has been said to sound like Pavement, Sonic Youth, Bright Eyes, and The Pixies. They are influenced by Fugazzi, Silver Jews, The Jicks, Archers of Loaf, Frank Black, Breeders, Nuetral Milk Hotel, Beatles, Brian Wilson, and Yo La Tengo. They have been played on a large number of FM stations as new fans discover their infectious music.
Second is indie alternative artist Austn, with two songs off two different albums. “Cyber_Rock” is off his album of the same title and some have said it sounds like the B 52s. Then off his “PSOARIASIS” album is “Gotta Have Heart” that has reminded some of Jefferson Airplane, Doors, John Lennon and Iron Butterfly. Fans have said his music sounds similar to U2, David Bowie, Beatles, Dragonforce, Bright Eyes, Steve Miller, Cars, Tubes. His influences include Beck, STYX, Foreigner, Jethro Tull, YES, Boston, WHO, Pink Floyd, SYNERGY, Hawkwind, Tangerine Dream, Jade Warrior, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Kansas, Peter Framton, Utopia, and Todd Rungren among others.
Finally, Main Pie who has been influenced by Steely Dan, Nick Drake, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Funkadelic, G.Love, Jack Johnson, Jimmy Smith, Tom Waits, Neil Young, BADMOUTH, rapster, Paul Oakley, Graydon Smith, Frank Zappa, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Robertson Davies, Bob Dylan, Ben Harper, Eagles of Death Metal, Pearl Jam, and Jeff Buckley lets us play one of his songs that isn’t on an album. It’s a beautiful track called “With You”. And second, a poetic peice that is amazing and unique from his album “Aardvark and the Hair Lip Pronouncement” called “Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb” His music has sometimes been compared to Nick Drake, Robbie Robertson, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and John Denver.
