Death Disco Radio presents LeChic (INTERNATIONAL DEEJAY GIGOLO RECORDS). It cannot be said that Susana and Rebeca have a background that is consistent with being musicians – one a customizing fashion designer and the other a geneticist – not exactly a typical start to a career in music. As soon as they collected enough records they started playing very informally at small events around the city: fashion clothing stores; private parties; expositions etc..

This section is a little static filled but that’s how we heard it there in the heartland. You will hear his opening break and also a promo from Fred Winston, an Animal Stories clip and JRL doing a live commercial. Good stuff.

3P1 L3P T1C F1T: Jijimuge, aaron zarzutzki and beardtongue: and finally kristin calvarese
in the gazebo of the downtown park in sleepy Venice Florida at bedtime. (sunset)
Special attention must be paid to the walk-in, a beach guy with a pair of scissors tucked into his belt, who bore no qualms expressing his satisfaction with the music.
2- jijimuge, aaron, beardtongue: guitar w/ electronics, electronic-actuated percussion, and the kagel drum.
Here the music was greatly assisted by the insects, (or was that aaron?) and the beach guy felt our music needed a little crooning on top.

The guitar-drums duo of Ingram and Manchester marks a decided endeavor to explore musical understatement, a project that, by considering its relationship with “silence” respects some of the more restrained acoustic qualities of its instrumentation. The resulting compositional vehicles therefore take on a kind of “slow motion sleight of hand,” in which exposition and objuscation are readily available elements to be shuffled.

This invitation into process, however, is rendered more enticing by means of the duo’s constant exploration of fresh, cinematic coloration. -Cliff Ingram

Over the next three installments, I will be posting recordings of three compositions by Chicago Guitarist Bill Mackay performed by his group Darts and Arrows. Other musicians are Dominic Johnson on violin, Lili Wosko on cello, Kyle Hernandez on bass, and Joshua Manchester on drums. Bill describes these pieces as chamber folk, experimental psych-folk, or even “Edgar Allen Poe” folk, if that gives you any clues to his intent. Please also reference the Darts and Arrows set which precedes this one, because with a slightly different personnel and no programming, a vastly different tenor was struck.

The Vagaries of Music Education.
A live improvisation in tandem with a four-part recorded
composition.
The concept for this piece occurred when I came across
some rehearsal tapes from my school years of
playing a banal rhythm at different tempos on a
practice pad. I instantly remembered the late-night
session in the institutional white room in the
basement of my university. When I heard the track, I
felt nothing but frustration that by the time I
graduated, I had put myself under immense pressure to
emulate an absent abstraction, yet knew nothing about
how to express my own tastes. In this brief
four-part composition I attempt to weave something
of interest from these mindless exercises, manipulating this rhythm into clusters evocative of chaotic systems. In the live performance, a free improvisation was played over the recorded composition.
Performed live on Philip Von Zweck’s radio show, “Something Else” November 6th 2005, 10th anniversary episode.
