Da KING Speaks

Greetings – this is KING ODIE (formerly COOL ODIE) / current pres – HiTT Breaka DJs / St. Louis division. I’m a former mc / radio & club dj. I rarely EVER do this, so for those unfamiliar with me – let me 1st introduce myself & then address what I’m seeking. Here we go…...

As a dj – I actually began practicing at home in the latter 70’s, leading to doing house parties, school dances & small clubs during the early – mid 80’s, with the penacle arriving during the late 80’s & early 90’s as 1 of the ANIMAL HOUSE DJs, and eventually ending up on radio [Z-100 FM and MAJIC 108]. As an mc in STL – I was blessed to be apart of the ‘roll call era’, a regular participant on ‘roll call’ and become friends with the late Dr. Jockenstein. However – I’m mostly known for teaming with SYLK SMOOV to create the 1992 classic joint ‘Bitch / Trick With A Good Rap’. During that period – we also formed an extended act known as ‘Da Cru From Da Lou’, which included the likes of LANDO, JCD, PLAYDOE (now known as ‘Big Sexy Kool DJ KAOS’ / KRIS KRINGLE of Da Hol 9), and PENELOPE (now known as PENELOPE JONES of which we actually created the name PENELOPE for her). In 1994 I departed from music completely. Six (6) years later – I resurfaced as a member of Da GATEKEEPAZ to create ‘Ghetto Phabulous’. During this run – we began building what would evenutally become a multi-year relationship with FINSTA, ROBBOO and the others who’d established Hi-Pointe Mondays at the Hi-Pointe Cafe.

In 2000 – I began to ease back moreso into the dj aspect of things, teaming with my GATEKEEPA partner LUKEMON to release several collab mixtapes showcasing hometown artists. With no disrespect intended towards anyone else (under the new terminology of what mixtapes are) – I proudly take claim in saying that I was STL’s 1st ‘mixtape dj’, providing the likes of AVERB, POTZEE (when he was with QUOR), P-DUBB (formerly Pretty Willie), EBONY EYEZ (when she was with NAZIR), RUKAPUFF, NITE OWL, CHINGY (when he was with 49 – lol), JUS BLACK (now known as BLEEZY), D-MAC, CHOCOLATE TAI, AJULE’ and many others their VERY 1st mixtape appearances. What makes it special is that I can also say I featured most of them 2 to 3 YEARS before they acheived popularity, therefore solitifying my eye & ear for ‘talent’ AND establishing good relationships.

In 2001 – my GATEKEEPA partner LUKEMON & I took a few young rappers and created Da SLU Cru [ http://myspace.com/slucru ]. We produced & co-produced their music & mixtape work, with the highlight of that situation being Slu Cru member BIG WILL ending up a 106th & Park Hall of Famist.

In 2006 – I linked up with The HiTT Breaka DJs.

Thanks for taking time to go over that bit of detail. I’ve provided audio detailing my newest quest called ‘Da King speaks’. Feel free to peep the audio & pass the along to whomever. Thanks, and I appreciate your co-operation.
